***** Saturday Night
Posted: November 05, 2009
Check it out on Saturday, it's a much bigger dance floor than the other gay bars in eddy town. But, there's quite a few, how do I say this... straight people there. Not that I'm against it, my best friend has come on a few gay pilgrimages to Montreal and Vancouver for pride--he's straight. It's just that they don't know gay bar etiquette, and can be surprised by drag queens, etc. Just remember, it's our bar, so have fun (safe) anyway. Met my bf there on my birthday. Although I can't remember much of the night, I know I didn't buy a drink.

Being from Calgary, I was afraid this club would be as terrible as Twisted is here but it wasn't. Good mix of music and a cute crowd. Nice atmosphere too.

What a waste of time. Painfully superficial. Decor tacky. Staff are very attractive (many show that they know it). Seemed there were way too many straight people there for the culture shock rather than to have a good time. Actually saw a chick curl her lip in disgust when she saw two lesbians kissing on the dance floor. Nice. I rather go to a straight bar...atleast there I know in advance that I can't be myself. 2 hours of my life I will never get back. Don't make the same mistake!

***** Lets Dance

Dance area is the largest of the local gay clubs . Lots of seating in all areas,3 bars with fun staff (nice eye candy) Back area is great for relaxing sitting and chatting . Lots of flat screen TVs around the bars. We have been 6 times on Sat. and 2xs Fridays and never had a bad time. People are friendly . If its a high energy fun dance club you are looking for this is the best Edmonton has to offer . They even have special events .

***** Posers everywhere!!
Posted: January 19, 2009
In order to be as fair as possible I've tried Play several times and unfortunately every time I go I am thoroughly disappointed. The "music" (if you can call it that) is a bunch of unbelievably bland and monotonous basso thumps and I find the decor to be tacky. That said the worst thing about this place is all of the posers. By this I DO NOT mean straight people in general. I mean the "oh my god, I'm in a gay bar" people. Play is filled with them. I have received freaked out looks from straight people when I was seen kissing another guy. On another occasion these two straight girls go up to a drag queen and ask to take her picture. This would be fine during a show...after all a show is a show... but there wasn't a show it was just a guy in drag there to have a good time. These particular straight girls just wanted a picture because drag queens are gay and gays are really "novel, outlandish and fun to watch". In fact, I would argue that the bar itself is a poser, after all it's not a gay bar it's a "queer" bar... and in their own words it's, "A place everyone can feel welcome whether you are gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgendered or straight"......the fact that they actually said that makes them LAME. This bar is nothing more than a zoo for posers to go to and watch the gays and our strange ways. The only way I would recommend it is if you want to be on display for a bunch of posers to watch and gawk at or if you're a poser who wants to have "freaky" time at a gay bar.
